Sorry....work got in the way....
The show is well sorta...being delayed because of me. My second job is getting in the way and making it hard for us to all get together and record. We are working on a solution and will get back out there ASAP...I promise.

Episode 65 of That's Good to Know
On this weeks show Dave Covers 2 weeks of news from the news blog, in the longest news segment ever. I cover 2 shows in the shortest podcast news segment ever. Then in the spirit of Halloween Dave reviews the "Dead" films, Night of, Day of and all the remakes and attempted remakes and then in the podlight we discuss the 24 Comics Podcast, not to be confused with a podcast about 24 hour comic book day.

Better Late, I am mean early, here's the show notes
This show was recorded in the morning, the names and the conditions of the hosts have been changed to protect the innocent. This is their show.
Dave gave us two weeks worth of news for the price of one, in reverse chronological order too, conclusion then the rumor that lead to it, thats top notch journalism. In podcast news we discuss the 24 Hour Podcast (more to come on that in a future show) and the 100th Video Game Outsiders. The reviews covered 3:10 to Yuma and the comics, Casanova volume 1, Friendly Nieghborhood Spiderman, Avengers, and 52 vol 1 (trade paperback). Dave drops and re-adds Countdown. Then Dave reviews the 10th Powers trade, volume one of Scalped and DMZ and convinces me that I have alot of reading to do. Finally I podlight "Webb Alert" a video podcast by Morgan Webb of G4 tv.
**DISCLAIMER*** We do not recommend photo-shopping real people into podcasts, the effects are unknown but assumed to be dangerous.

Episode 63....The Force is strong with this one.
This episode was a bit short. Maybe because of all the sugar and caffiene we all had before the show.....or it was Halo 3 sitting in the next room ready to be played. Either way the show had everything all of you listeners look forward to. Dave admits to watching Family Guy. We all discuss the change in Around Comics, I review Halo 3, like that hasn't been done a thousand times over and we podlight CHAD VADER.

Episode 62......How do you balance your entertainment?
There's another Pardo loose on the West Coast and Dave wants to become a Jedi by buying a Wii in the news. Wayne of Geekintertainment gets married and his wife gets a DS at her bridal shower, how is that fair, in podcast news. Rob reviews "The List", a creepy holiday tale.
Then the three of us discuss how we balance life and entertainment. How we prioritize our viewing, reading and/or listening times? How time of the day and mood effect what we will do, and what alternative ways of seeing tv we use to not have to rearrange our lives according to tv guide.
Then the show ends with a timely podlight of the Bungi Cast.

Pittsburgh Podcamp continued
Podcamp is one of those things you have to want to get something out of. You can go and just absorb information at all the sessions and not say a word and probably get out what you need if you want the basics. That is what I did most of last year at podcamp, I can sat back and took it all in. This year I gave more of an effort to participate, ask question, join in the fun. I got myself involved in a presentation for a fake web 2.0 company called RandomEarth, which one Alex Landefeld of minute lit, and the pixel core, and myself a cool Rita's Italian Ice shirt, air freshener and a Guru sponsored Thermos during a session called Half-Baked.com hosted by Jia Ji of Guru.com and judged by John Carman of the M Show and Lindsay Patross of Spreadshirt.com and Iheartpgh.com.
.
Next came the Wrestling Mayhem and the Should I Drink That. Their session went over how their shows started, what they did to get and keep their listeners and couple WOOOOOO chops to the chest. I also got to sign the YOU TUBE.
Next was the Chris Brogan "Let's MAKE something" session. All I have to say is, please keep listening to our show, even after watching this video, and the first clip was not meant to be left on, so ignore it.
That was all in day one. Day 2 was more learning in the beginning and craziness in the second half. The first session was with Chris Brogan talking about differentiating us from our shows. Think of yourself as someone who does these things (work, podcast), don't let yourself be it or have people think of you as the show or as your job title at work. That lead to a session by Melissa of My Design Self Study who did an informative talk on Branding which can be downloaded from her site. She talked about choosing you content, your audience and use that to pick the right logo and look for your content. Combining those things will help you brand your content correctly and help you attract the right audience.
Next was Show Me the Money...Please with Jason Cable of the GLBT podcast and Cynthis Closkey of My Brilliant Mistakes. They went over lots of different ways with some ideas from the audience on how to make money through the use of ads (Google, Pay Per Post, Review Me, Fire Lead, and Deep Local which will be up and running near the end of 2007) on their blogs or websites. They also discussed the Amazon affiliate program that seemed very simple to set up and depending on your viewers could get you a few bucks here and there.
Then came lunch. Lunch was supposed to be the time I interviewed Chris Brogan, oh and ate lunch. Instead it became video watching, eating, giveaway time. (speaking of the giveaways, if you were there, what was the name of the second book they gave away, I want to pick it up, actually both but the second one sounded like an interesting read) We watched some very interesting videos like.....
*if you love your iphone, in a, if it gets scratched my life is over sort of way...don't watch this.
Here is something to laugh at while you wipe your tears away from the last one...
And here is a trailer that was shown from a movie made by students of the Art Institute, for a $1,000. The movie, not the trailer...smart ass
and just for the 2 of you who have not seen this...Dave and Rob I mean you, here is Justine and her phone bill.
The afternoon started with my interview with Chris Brogan, which you can here on the next episode of That's Good to Know. That interview lead to one with Justine, which can be seen if you want to see me online, at justin.tv/justine
After that the day ended with a panel hosted by Justin Kownacki which discussed the future of new social media in Pittsburgh from new media creators and even Bill Peduto of Pittsburgh's City Council came by.
At the end of the day all I wanted was the next podcamp or bootcamp to be announced and for it to be next week and to rid the world of bacn (somewhere between spam and the mail you want, like friend requests and wiki updates, you want it but you don't, its coming for you.). I learned alot this year about blogging, branding and monetizing your site/blog. I met some new people and saw some people I met last year and I saw alot of new faces that I know will be back next year to talk about the blog or podcast they started up because of this years podcamp.
Good luck to everyone just starting up, once you get going you will wonder why you didn't start sooner. See you at Podcamp 3.
oh and I will try to bring some coffee with me next year to help out. It all went so fast.
And how could I forget HAPPY BIRTHDAY NORMAN!!!

Podcamp Pittsburgh 2
Podcamp moved to the Pittsburgh Art Institute this year. So far the move seems to have worked out very well. Everything is much closer together, there are plenty of rooms to sit back and relax in, shoot video and hopefully tomorrow do some interviews in. If your in the area and have any intrest at all in blogging, podcasting or video podcasting you should come down. If you have no intrest you should come anyway and I promise you will become a blogger or a podcaster by the end of the day.
If you don't believe me read some of these peoples comments about Podcamp Pittsburgh
John Wall host of the M Show
Justine of ijustinetv and Tasty Blog Snack
and if you do decide to come, you don't have to call ahead, unless you want to...

Books, Black Sheep and all the other stuff...oh and Episodes 57 and 58
Episodes 57 and 58 have finally arrived. I know 57 was last week, but ...would u believe the dog ate my show notes? 57 was one of those, PREVIOUSLY ON That's Good to Know, kinda moments, with some news and reviews thrown in. This past weeks show had the whole gang back together. Rob even did a review of Black Sheep.....not the one your thinking of. We also did a podlight on this show called the Chris cast....I think its a good show, I mean it has a great name. Next week, the Chris cast will be back, mostly because Dave will be out of town, Rob will be, somewhere else and I will be at podcamp. I am hoping to get some interviews and maybe just do a whole show there. Chris Brogan already said he would be on, and hopefully he won't be the only one.
See you all next week. And if your coming to Podcamp here in Pittsburgh send us an email

Is that the line to see That's Good to Know?
Maybe someday we will have a line going down the block, or at least to Dave's front porch but the line there was at the US Open, being held at the Oakmont County Club just east of Pittsburgh. All the big names in golf will be here, Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Vijay Singh, Luke Donald and Zach Johnson. I will try to get some interviews on Sunday when I go back to Oakmont but you know golfers, always looking for the next course to play at, no time for podcast interviews but maybe....who knows.

Halo 3 Release Date
According to xbox.com the release date for all editions of Halo 3 is September 25th. This is over month earlier then the original not official release date listed for November. That puts us 4 months and 9 days from the release as of today. Merry Early Christmas to all the Halo fans out there.

The Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta is about to begin
Players from all over the world will get their shot at playing the multiplayer of Halo 3 in less then 12 hours. I will be one of those players. I was sorta excited about it until about 10am this morning. Thats when I listened to the EGM live podcast. Just hearing them talk about the beta and the fun they were having, the new control scheme, the maps, the man cannon?, and how they were not sure they could go back to Halo 2 after playing it. I wanted to play it then. I was tempted to take a vacation day on Wednesday so I could play it all day long. I didn't, but I will definetly be devoting alot of my time to it over the next several weeks. My coverage will appear here, on the podcast (That's Good to Know), and on the website Popular Distractions. Hope to see you online.
PS: I am not sure how it will work, but I am planning on using the video capture ability added to Halo 3 to post some video on my xbox live gamertag. I know they are viewable, I am just not sure if its only on xbox live or if you can see them on xbox.com, I will keep you posted. My gamertag is JCrichton77

Never Not Funny Podlight
The name is true, Jimmy Pardo, the former third baseman Mike Shmidt, and the producer Matt Belknap always give you an hour of laugh out loud podcasting. The show basically is the three of them discussing their lives since the last show, with an occasional guest here and there. The stories range from Jimmy meeting and being recognized by one of his life long hero's to Matt being chased by a wolf.
"The free-flowing discussion can lead anywhere, but whether Jimmy's talking about growing up in the '70s and '80s, his unbridled love of classic rock or facing the trials of modern life, it's bound to strike a chord with listeners of all ages, and it's guaranteed to make you laugh." Episode 47 Who knew Peter could dance like that
In this episode Dave talks about the trade deficit with China. Never Not Funny moves into a new studio and IGN teaches you how to become a video game journalist. Spider-man 3 was good, even with a dance scene. The new dashboard update and South Koreans still playing Starcraft comes up in the Expansion Pack. And Insomniac donates money to charity on their podcast the Full Moon.

Is Kevin Rose Leaving Digg?
Is Kevin Rose planning on leaving Digg? After reading this story on wired it seems more and more likely. I have been a fan of digg since I started listening to podcasts. I hope its not going to happen, but if it does I wish Kevin the best in his future endeavors.

Episode 46
That's Good to Know's 2nd Annual Pittsburgh Comicon Show
Last year Dave and I got the idea in our heads that we could do a podcast. We picked a name and went to the 2006 Pittsburgh Comicon with notepads and a digital camera and the begininings of a podcast. The day consisted of meeting Nightstalker, from the preliminary rounds of "Stan Lee's: Who wants to be a Superhero" to discussing the death of Hawkeye with Brian Michael Bendis and attending a Q&A with Bendis. That and buying comics, mainstream and Indy gave us enough material for our first show. The show consisted of Dave and I discussing what went on at the Commicon and Dave's dad making an appearence on the show.
Since then the show has grown in many ways. We have gained listeners, a third host and brought a format to the show. We have segments from the News, Podcast News, Reviews, Podlight, to The R.R.A.C, Expansion Pack and Trade Talk. The show has gained fans and even got a few emails. There is West Coast Chris who covered Wizard-con for us for the website. There's also Doug our Florida correspondant who has offered to cover things for us as well. We have had letters read by Casey Kasum (spelling), samari and ninja attacks, we have fought battles in the podcast wars, fought off zombies and even avoided registering with the Governent but hiding underground.
We have reviewed trades, tv shows, movies (new and retro), discussed tech news, gene therapy, space travel, covered Comicons, 24 Hour Comic Book Days, Podcamps, been serious discussing life altering events like the anniversary of 9-11 and the losses we have suffered over this past year as a show and within the world as a whole.
This and 45 episodes of shows have lead up to episode 46. Episode 46 is hopefully the begininig of something great for That's Good to Know. This episode included the first interviews we were able to record for the show. Dave, Rob and I talked to alot of people within the comic book industry and learned alot. Dave talked to Pete Stathis, creator of the book Evenfall, Terry Huddleston, a portrait artist who specializes in Superheroes, and Danielle Corsetto, creator of the webcomic Girls with Slingshots. Rob talked to Ben Lichious the creator of The Black Coat. I talked to Dan Greenfield (Straumhaus,Evergreen) and Jason Yungbluth (Weapon Brown and Deep Fried) two independent comic creators, and Jennifer Contino a writer for the website the Pulse which covers comic book news and the comicons going on across the US and Canada. There were also plenty of Panels and after hours activities to be discussed.
I would like to thank all the listeners who have listened to our show over the past year and welcome all the new listeners who have just joined us recently. This episode brought some new things to the show and hopefully will be the begining of a great second year of podcasting. Thanks again and keep listening.

Message about Michael Turner from Michael George Comicon Chariman
A Message from Comicon Chairman - Michael George
The convention is one week away and I know you are all excited. We're super-excited too, but I do have to give you a bit of bad news. Michael Turner, who has become a dear friend of my wife and I over the years, will not be able to make it to the 2007 Pittsburgh Comicon. As many of you may have heard, Michael is once again going through chemotherapy treatments. He is feeling strong and healthy, but the chemotherapy treatments which are currently being done on Thursdays sap Michael's
strength for week-end events like ours, particularly when you add a cross country flight into the mix. I know many of you will be disappointed by Mr. Turner's absence, but our focus is on the hope that Michael will finally be able to put this behind him and return to Pittsburgh soon. Our hopes and prayers are with him.
Anyone wishing to pass along their best wishes for Michael can send
